Everything's gonna be cool this Christmas

This week, we’ve all been ridiculously sick.  Which is a shame too, because I totally wanted to talk about the whole “President Musk” meme.  But I’m sure there’ll be time for that later.  Till then.

Time: see what's become of me

Well, another trip around the sun and I’m about to turn another year older.  This year my birthday falls exactly on Election Day here in the U.S. ... lucky me.  Honestly, I would have preferred to have a bit more peace and calm on my birthday, but we takes what we gets.  Perhaps I’ll be fortunate enough to get a birthday gift for all of America.  I suppose we’ll know by next week.

Bugs in my ears, their eggs in my head

This week, I’m sick.  You’re lucky I’m cogent enough to write this much.

You know I never could say anything in 20 words or less

This week, one of my oldest friends from the Heroscape scene (who also happens to have been an actor as a teenager and young adult, though he’s out of that game these days) came over to our house to play Heroscape with me and the two smallies (neither of whom are all that small these days).  It was great fun, and perhaps I’ll write up a more complete report of the day’s festivities next week.  For this week, I’m pretty exhausted, and it’s a short-post week anyhow.  So I think I’ll just leave it there for now.

There's just a blind spot in my memory

There’s been some sickness going through our house this week, and I’m just not capable of the mental acuity necessary to put up anything resembling a coherent blog post.  Hopefully next week will be better.

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead

This week, I had yet another computer go down on me, which means my weekend went to shit pretty fast.  So there’s no time to tell you that I won’t be posting much of anything this week.  So just imagine that I did.  Should be fairly easy.

Fall in love with a bright idea

Hey, remember six weeks ago when I talked about college campus protests?  Well, this week’s Some More Newsa YouTube show I started watching during the dark days of the writer’s strike—says almost exactly what I said, only funnier, and with more actual facts.  If you’ve been feeling unsure how to think about the whole campus protest thing, what with competing reports of police brutality and anti-Semitism and “outside agitators,” I really encourage you to watch “How To Cynically Dismiss The Campus Protests Against Genocide”.  Like every episode of SMN, it contains a fair amount of in-jokes (the writers are mostly former employees of Cracked), but I think you’ll find it entertaining nonetheless.  And, who knows? you might just learn something.

I am standing at the edge of my mind

Not too much going on this week, yet somehow I’m exhausted.  I suspect I’m just not getting good sleep.  Probably need to invest in one of those sleep trackers.  Although it’s an interesting question: would knowing that I’m not sleeping well help me sleep better?  Or would it just get in my head and make me so worried about not getting good sleep that it would further impact my sleep?

Perhaps the mere fact that I’ve asked such a question reveals that I spend way too much time thinking about things like that.  So I dunno.  I reckon we’ll just have to see what happens.

Optimistic, but never quite elegant

No time for a proper post this week: ChatGPT has a new model, and I’m trying to wrangle it into helping me solve a problem with my laptop that the previous model utterly failed at.  The prognosis thus far: limited success.  The new model is absolutely smarter, but I’m not sure it’s smart enough yet.

If you want to hear me ramble on about ChatGPT, I did a couple of posts last year on it: In the meantime, you’ll just have to wait another week for me to get back to my post-pandemic TV roundup.

The vicissitudes of feline dentistry

This week, one of our eldest cat’s teeth broke and/or fell out.  So it’s been a crazy weekend, and I didn’t have time to do even a partial post.  Still, there’s always next week.  Hopefully.

Another trip around the sun ...

I really thought I was going to be able to do a full blog post this time, despite it being my birthday weekend.  But, apparently, I’ve relaxed too hard, and the time has just slipped away.  I would love to tell you I’m sorry, but ... I too relaxed to feel all that sorry about it.  Sorry for not being sorry.  Sort of.

Next week: the thing you should have gotten this week.  See how it all works out?

In a house with unlocked doors

As I sit here rewatching The Meg, which really isn’t as bad as it’s cracked up to be, in preparation for watching The Meg 2, which probably will be as bad as it’s cracked up to be (but it’ll be entertaining enough, I expect) ... as I sit here, pondering old Jason Statham will be before they stop casting him in action movies, I appreciate the fact that I took this blog to a biweekly schedule.  See ya next week.

The soul of wit

No time for even a short post this week, sadly.  The Mother is coming down with something so I haven’t had the time today to do much other than help out with errands.  Still, there’s always next week.  Let’s see what happens then.

See what's become of me ... while I looked around ...

I had a couple of ideas for a post this week, but I’m preparing to head off to Cachuma Lake for a vacation with The Mother and my youngest.  So I’ve been spending a good deal of my weekend getting ready for that.  I just haven’t had time to put together a proper post, and, next week, I’ll just be getting back from this vacation, so you’re not likely to see a full post then either.  Sorry about that.  But sometimes you jsut gotta put family first.

You know?

The story of this week

This week, I actually made a passable start on catching up on a few things.  Plus, it continues to be hot as hell here in Southern Cali, and The Mother and my youngest attend a “bunny faire.” Next week, a proper post.

I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be ... but if you wait around a while ...

Well, the computer setup is going fairly well ... but not well enough that I have a longer post for you this week.  Still, despite the work dragging on, I can safely say that things are better than they were before I started ... before the machines started being flaky, even.  So I’m well enough satisfied with the progress, even if I feel a little bad for slipping on the posting schedule.  But that’s the way it goes sometimes.

Next week will be better, I can just feel it.

Apparently, time flies whether you're having fun or not

Whew!  It’s been a crazy week.  Family stuff, work stuff ... hopefully it’s all settling down soon.  But luckily this was a short post week anyway, so it all works out.  Let’s see how next week comes out.

The tide is high, but I'm holdin' on

I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without posting a proper, long post.  But everyone in my house has been sick for nearly two weeks, and it’s finally come for me.  So this is about as much as I can manage in between cough drops and shots of Cēpacol.  At this point it seems foolish to try and promise anything, but please believe that I will do everything in my power to end this dry streak next week.

Frenetic tumultuous chaotic confused ... it's been a bit hectic, is what I'm sayin'

This should have been a long post this week, but, due to some family matters and other things going on, I simply ran out of time.  I should be able to get back on schedule next week though.
